Biography

Siavosh Sohrab was born in Iran in an area surrounded by the Caspian Sea, the Damavand Mountain and the Mazanderan rain forest.  This combination provides an ideal environment for music lovers.  From the very beginning Siavosh due to his father’s devotion was brought up with Iranian folklore music.  In his early childhood he could not sleep without listening to the harmonious and relaxing sound of his father’s flute.  When he became a little older, his voice was discovered by the female rice farmers.  They took him to the rice field and he gave them joy with his songs during their hard work.  From that time on he became a part of every party in the town whether it was an innocent teenage party or a proper wedding.

For Siavosh Sohrab singing was not his only passion.  He soon showed an interest in wrestling the native sport of the area.  He joined the wrestling club and through hard work and discipline under the guidance of the great wrestler and champion Sobhan Rohi he also achieved remarkable results in this area.  Several times he became the number one champion in Mazanderan and number two in Iran.  He was foreseen as having a great future within the sport but unfortunately due to an injury he was forced to stop his promising career.  The Mazanderan wrestling team were very sorry about this incidence because as well as losing a valuable team member they also lost it’s singer who gave them the courage to be brave with his singing before every match.

Siavosh Sohrab says that wrestling and singing were two wings of the aviation of his life.  It was a hard period when he lost one of the wings.  However as a good sportsman he did not hide himself from the publicity and he did not sink into self pettiness but fought back and put his efforts and focus into singing.

Siavosh Sohrab says that Takhti was and still is his moral idol in wrestling because as well as winning medals in the international wrestling scene he also captured the hearts of the people.  His idol in singing is The Master Mohammed Reza Shajarian not only for the great range of his voice but also because of his great knowledge of music, poems, lyrics and his fight for the survival of the classic Iranian music.  Determined to do something about his singing Siavosh Sohrab went to London and started working with one of the greatest Iranian composers Babak Radmanesh.

When he was asked why we should wait so long for his first album considering his experience in this area Siavosh Sohrab answers there are two reasons.  The first one is ‘I am very particular when it comes to my music I give it the necessary time until I am satisfied with the result.’ The second one in addition to the first one is: ‘I want to be financially independent.  When you are economically supported by a person or a group they would have their own idea about which kind of music you are going to sing and that is not me.  I choose my music with my heart.

When he is asked to tell something about himself, he answers:
‘I am relaxed, emotional and social in my life.  About my work I am enthusiastic, focused, creative, tolerant and peaceful towards new people.  I value honesty and fairness from my friends.  My dream is a free world without poverty and borders and equal rights between men and women.’
